Mailing or postal addresses are assigned by providers of mail delivery services. The boundaries of suburbs are not defined in any authoritative sense, and there may be a number of options for suburb names for a property addresses that can be considered valid, and are subject to personal preference. The general location of suburbs is recognised by the DCC and most appear on the street map. There are many suburb names in the central part of the city (Mornington, Opoho, Brockville, etc) and while these are not essential for uniqueness, they help locate the part of the Dunedin the road or property is within.
